Notes : My husband and I decided to check out a local land mark in our little town of Ararat VA. We had lived there for several months and due to an accident that left my leg shattered, I was home bound for a few months. I had just had gotten my cast off and a walking boot put on. I was ready to get out and explore. The Mitchell House is a house that belongs to the J.E.B Stuart Birthplace. You can read all about J.E.B on their website the link is at the bottom of this page. He was a great civil war figure. The Mitchell house is suspected of being built on or near the foundation ofthe William Letcher house that used to stand there. Letcher was J.E.B’s Great grandfather who was murdered on his front porch by the pro British Tories. Some say the murder was politically motivated. Letcher’s grave is on the property and is the oldest marked grave in Patrick County VA! Being a history buff the place automatically intrigued me.

We got to the house near dusk with my camera in hand not really counting on getting any paranormal photos. My hubby and I walked around the place outside and I took pics. The house itself stays locked at all time and no one has lived there in 12 years. The house is a big 2 story frame house that is beautiful in it's own right. With a nice shady yard and very welcoming look about it. That is how I felt about the place other than the fact the whole time I was there I have this feeling that I was being watched by unseen eyes. It kind of un nerved me because I was not expecting feelings like that. Before we left I walked up on the porch and I don't know what made me do it...but there was a glass broken out of the left side of the door.I stuck my arm inside with my camera and I snapped several pictures of the stair case. When we got home for the night and I downloaded my pictures on to my computer. I was shocked by the orb picture that I had captured on the stair way.See the orb on the stairs above!

The above picture was taken in Aug 2004. The team came down to check the place out. Mike informed me he thought he had saw something in the upstairs window. I did not see anything at the time but I snapped a pic. I was amazed at this picture. I have no idea what it is. To me it looks like a reddish form of someone. There is no glass in this window to cause any sort of reflection. What you see is the window screen peeled up.  Also the house was locked up so there was no way it was a real human up there.

Sept 2004
We were personally given an inside tour of the house by the vice president at the time of the J.E.B Stuart Birthplace Neva Smith. Neva had called me after seeing the above picture of the Orb on the stairwell. She told me there was something I really needed to know about that house. It seems a young man who had returned home from Vietnam had hung him self in that very stairwell. Out of respect for the family I will leave his name out. During our inside visit we were updated on the history of the place by Neva.

I had a previous and extensive Mitchell House Page with many pictures. I accidently deleted it. So I will have to re add my pictures and notes at a later time.

We did an overnighter investigation of the Mitchell house. Thanks to John Broughton the president at the J.E.B Stuart Birthplace who let us have full run of the place. Although it was not very active at the time I enjoyed being there. Our base was set up in the huge room that must have been the den. I set and pondered about the family that lived there and how many children was raised in that house. I think if I recall right there was 12 kids born there in total. How full of laughter and joy it must have been most of time. I kept thinking how the house seemed empty and void. It is such a shame that the house is not being used.

The wrapped up hand is not a mummy lol. It is my husband. He had an accident at work where a couple of his fingers were severed off. Do you see the 3d looking orb to the top right?
